Rename Google Apps Standard Edition account
So I recently got an Android phone, the Galaxy S.
I didn’t notice when I picked it up from the Ormskirk O2 store, but it’s bigger than my old iPhone 3GS (That got a bit of water damage that I tried to have fixed to no avail 🙁). Anywho!
It depends on a Google account. I’ve been trying to move towards having just one Google account, which was my catch.all account at this domain. So I quickly set this up. Within a few hours I realised that Android 2.1 only really likes one primary Google account with all the bells and whistles (Calendar, etc). So it drove me to rename my catch.all account to “ste”. How would I do this with me Google Apps account with it only being a Standard package? Hmm. It’s easy to rename your accounts on the Google Apps Premier Edition, and Google offer you to try out Premier for 30 days for free. Problem solved!
I’ve started the Premier trial, which I’m about to cancel ’cause I’ve just renamed the account using GAM.
gam update user catch.all username ste
Now it’s got an account with a sensible name, it’s time to load it with Android goodies!
This process is now a LOT easier!
